2027 International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) of the German Bundestag

The German Embassy Washington is now accepting U.S. citizen applications to the 2027
International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) of the German Bundestag.

Currently in its 40 th year, the IPS program offers young college graduates from up to 50
countries the chance to experience Germany’s democratic system of governance up-close in
Berlin. The application deadline is July 31, 2026.

Offered in collaboration with Berlin’s three major universities, the prestigious IPS program is
ideal for politically engaged young people who seek to play an important role in shaping the
future of democratic cooperation—in their respective countries, and internationally.
The IPS program allows participants to gain first-hand knowledge of Germany’s
parliamentary system and political decision-making process during a three-month work
placement with a Member of the German Parliament. Participants also take part in a rich
educational program with the German political foundations and have the chance to enroll in
university classes, spending a total of five months in the German capital (March 1 through
July 31, 2027).

IPS is open to college graduates who are U.S. citizens, under 30 on March 1, 2027, and have
very good knowledge (B2+) of the German language. Candidates should also be familiar with
the basic features of German politics and society. Applicants must have completed their
undergraduate studies and be able to offer proof of their degree by December 31, 2026.
